COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE
In this project for the new College of Architecture at the University of Trieste Elisa proposed to merge the estethic a of an existing historic building in Italy and its monumental presence with a more flexible and temporary architecture related to the wood framed buildings she studied during her exchange program in US.
She got inspired by the character of each individual architecture in a sketch of Hejduk and by the individuality and contrast of a temporary architecture in a empty old building from a Gardella’s drawings.
The goals of the project were:
IMAGE: Providing a strong and representative institutional image
BALANCE: Activities, events, circulation and separate uses are balanced in space.
FLEXIBILITY: The Design must be adaptable to suit various uses in space and time.
MOVEMENT: Single elements are free to float inside the existing building structure.
SOCIAL INTERACTION The spaces arrangement must reflect relationships between people.
CHARACTER: Every element must be customizable to suit the user’s needs and should provide a playful vision in the space to be used.
INTEGRATION & JUXTAPOSITION:
existing Building = historic, solid, rooted, container
Vs
new Boxes = technological, light Framed, movable, units
